Hindsight 2020
Looking back on a year like no other

2020 was a crazy year! In the twenty-five years that I have roamed this planet, I have never experienced such a radical shift in everyday life like this. If you told me at the beginning of this year that we would close workplaces, have stay-at-home orders, and bar international travel, I would have responded with what a stretch that would be.
Yet, we have all made it through this year together. Some of us have lost jobs, some of us got married, and some of us didn’t do much at all. It’s easy for me to feel like I fall into the latter category when I see so much happening around me. Yet, personal development is a journey that we are all on together and that has seasons, paces, and schedules. Just because your schedule looks different than someone else’s doesn’t mean that you have to feel behind, stress, or worry. I mean, even Jesus didn’t really do much until he was 30!
With so many young adults living under the same roof as their parents, it’s a great time to soak up the rest of the holiday season and enjoy the time that we are blessed with together. Had it not been for the pandemic and stay-at-home orders, we wouldn’t be spending as much quality time together. Generations are coming together like never before and I believe this is for the strengthening of the Kingdom. Moving back to my family’s house has been the biggest blessing and I’m really grateful that I have them throughout this season of life.
Merriam-Webster defines 20/20 hindsight to mean, “the full knowledge and complete understanding that one has about an event only after it has happened.” It seems that for so many of us, our early-twenties is coming to an abrupt end. Looking back, it’s easy to regret foolish spending or other poor lifestyle choices. However, it’s such a blessing to realize that this year so many people have made progress on their personal development like never before. And luckily, this also means that they are developing the spiritual aspect of their lives, recognizing God’s hand throughout their life, and knowing that everything happened just as it was meant to. With this level of clarity are we able to move forth into a new year, brimming with excitement, hope, and inspiration again. Because despite the difficulties that we have faced this year, we are stronger and better off because of them.
"For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." -Jeremiah 29:11
