Ash Wednesday 2022
Ashes to Ashes. Dust to Dust. 🖤

So when you give to the needy, do not announce it with trumpets, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets, to be honoured by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your giving may be in secret. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.
Matthew 6:2-4
In service this morning, they talked about this being a time of: 1) prayer, 2) fasting, and 3) alms giving. Jesus urged us to keep all of these things holy by hiding them or doing them in secret. For God says that we should focus on our heavenly reward instead of receiving our reward here on earth.
I noticed there are many noonday and evening services this year. Even if you are unable to receive the imposition of ashes today, I hope you will attend a service during Lent for renewal.
What are you giving up for Lent? For me, it’ll be processed sugar 🍰🍭🍦
