God’s Deposit of the Holy Spirit (2 Cor.) as a Glimpse of His Future Glory
Now the one who has fashioned us for this very purpose is God, who has given us the Spirit as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come.
2 Corinthians 5

I have been reading through the epistles that comprise the end of the New Testament, and loved the way this deposit was illustrated in Paul’s Second Epistle to the Corinthians. He says that the Spirit has been given to us as a deposit to guarantee what is to come.
A deposit, in this case, is defined as a sum payable as a first installment on the purchase of something or as a pledge for a contract, the balance being payable later. So God’s deposit of the Holy Spirit in us is just the first installment. There is so much more that God wants to deliver to us! He has so much in store for us! God’s Deposit
So we should have confidence because the LORD has invested in us. By sending His Only Son, Jesus Christ, to die for our sins, He invested in us so that we could have the Holy Spirit. Yet, Paul is saying that the Spirit is just God’s deposit. So this deposit is just a glimpse of the glory He will reveal to us… and that definitely builds up my confidence in the future!
How much more, then, will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself unblemished to God, cleanse our consciences from acts that lead to death, so that we may serve the living God!
