Empowered by the Forgiveness of Jesus – John 14:15

One of the most incredible things about the Gospel is that we have been given complete forgiveness. In Christ, our sin has been taken away and we have been given a clean slate. This is good news for us because it means that we can approach God with confidence, knowing that He will not reject us because of our sins.

What does it mean to be forgiven?

Forgiveness means that our debt has been paid in full. We no longer owe anything to God because Christ has fulfilled the requirements of the law on our behalf. When we repent and turn to Christ, He forgives us completely and His righteousness is credited to our account.

God made Him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in Him we might become the righteousness of God.

2 Corinthians 5:21

This is such good news! We don’t have to earn our forgiveness or strive to be good enough for God. He has already credited us with His righteousness and nothing we do can add to or take away from that.

For by grace you have been saved through faith, and this is not from you; it is the gift of God; it is not from works, so no one may boast.

Why did Jesus forgive us?

The Apostle Paul tells us in Romans 5:8 that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. In other words, He died in our place so that we could be forgiven. This is amazing grace! We didn’t deserve forgiveness, but Christ died anyway so that we could be reconciled to God.

How should we respond to this forgiveness?

In light of all that Christ has done for us, how can we do anything but love Him with all of our heart, soul, mind, and strength? And when we love Him, obeying Him will be a joy and not a burden.

If you love me, keep my commands.
